ABOUT ME

Debojyoti Nath, aka The Busking Man, is an Indian based singer-songwriter,

busker, life-skills educator, storyteller and the

Founder of Musart Brigade

He was born in the quaint little jungle town of Umrongshu in Assam. He grew up in Shillong, the rock capital of India. It was there, where his love for music took birth. He started singing at an early age and then proceeded to teach himself the guitar.

He later studied at an international boarding school in Chennai, completed his graduation in Business Management from Kolkata and finally his MBA from Bangalore.

He started working for Radio City 91.1FM in Delhi from 2011 till 2014. He was the evening show producer, part time RJ, and handled their digital radio as well. He joined ScoopWhoop.com in late 2014 after leaving his job at Radio City.

That is when he first got the idea to start busking (street music). His first busking experience was at Connaught Place in New Delhi. He busked a couple more times in Delhi at different places like Hauz Khaz, the Pride Parade and Khan Market. The response was so amazing and he felt so good busking that he decided to quit his job and busk across India!

1st January, 2015 was when he set out on his long audacious tour across India.

He called him The Busking Man since then.

He became the first busker to busk in all the 29 states of India for a period of seven months!

His main motivation was to introduce the concept of busking in India and also to spread the message of Peace and Love through music. He painted three placards with the words, Peace and Love and he used that throughout his tour and gigs even till today.

Since then, Debojyoti has dedicated his life to music in whatever way, shape or form. He was working for an event planner organisation in Kolkata known as "Popcorn Memories" and his job was to visit the clients house to sing and entertain them for various events like birthdays, anniversaries and other events.

He also played at many old age homes, orphanages and children's libraries. Music truly heals, he always believed.

In 2017, he recorded his debut album called Rolling On, containing 7 original songs. Anindo Bose of Advaita recorded, mixed and mastered his album at his Plug 'n' Play Studios in New Delhi.

After releasing a total of five singles, The Busking Man officially released the entire album on January 17th 2021.

"The record is filled with dynamic instrumentation, layered with vibrant acoustic guitar parts and Nath’s evocative vocals."

- David Britto, Rolling Stone Magazine, India.

"The seven tracks on it are loaded with good songwriting, great chords and his highly likeable vocal delivery. ‘Rolling On’ is definitely worth a listen, but so is his story."

- Madhusudan Raman, Rock Street Journal (RSJ Magazine)

Debojyoti had also been working for an NGO called Music Basti for over three years as a Teaching Artist, Operations Manager and  finally a Program Manager.

He recently co-founded the initiative Musart Brigade with the vision of bringing the joy of music and arts to children and to empower them. He aims to work and build in them 21st century life skills of creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking through the medium of music and the arts. His focus is also to instill the ageless and eternal values of peace, love, empathy and kindness.
